FOREST SCHOOL
We are very fortunate at Harpsden to have a wonderful strip of woods within our grounds.
We run dedicated Forest School sessions on Mondays but also incorporate aspects of forest school during our normal sessions so that all the children may benefit.
The ethos behind Forest School is about creating a stimulating, creative, challenging and risk benefit environment where children can connect with nature. It is about enabling children to build their self-confidence and self-esteem and feel pride as they develop new skills. Examples of the activities that are on offer to the children include:
-
Working together to create log piles for insects and small animals to live in
-
learning about the different flora and fauna found in our woods – including identifying those that might be dangerous to us
-
going on minibeast hunts
-
Collecting natural materials to make crowns and collages
-
Building dens
-
Creating their own small worlds
-
Providing a magical environment for storytelling
-
Just enjoy being in the woods!
The possibilities are endless and are led by the children’s interests.
