Parents and Committee

Parents and the Pre-School

Parental involvement is vital to the success of our pre-school. We seek to create a strong partnership between you and the pre-school, the essence of which is respectful listening and sharing of information about your child’s learning. Partnership involves responsibility on both sides.

Pre-School Parents Committee

Our pre-school is a registered charity and a non-profit making organisation. It is run by a parent-led voluntary committee comprising Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and general committee members. As a community based, voluntary managed setting, we depend on the goodwill of parents and their involvement to keep going. Membership of the setting carries expectations on parents for their support and commitment. Joining the committee is an excellent way of getting involved with your child’s early education.

Committee members are elected at the AGM in September, but anyone wishing to join the committee at another time will be very welcome and should speak to any existing committee member for more information.

The committee meets once per month and is responsible for the effective running of the pre-school, such as managing the setting’s finances, employing and managing the pre-school’s staff, ensuring the setting has, and works to, policies that help it provide a  high quality service, and making sure the setting works in partnership with the children’s parents.

The 2016/2017 Committee is:

Rebecca Day – Chairperson

Sarah McLean – Treasurer

Morag McLaren – Secretary

Alison Watson – Health & Safety

Julia Howorth- Fundraising

For Your Information…

To help you feel welcome we have a parents’ notice-board, which you are encouraged to check regularly.  It displays news of social events, fund-raising activities, policies and information to keep you up to date with pre-school life.  We also produce regular newsletters for all parents and encourage your feedback and comments.

Fundraising

Various fundraising events are undertaken throughout the year, enabling us to buy equipment with the money raised and everyone is encouraged to take part. We ask that all parents get involved by attending the events that are held and helping to organise at least one event during the year.

Parental rota of help

We operate a ‘Snack List’ which is a request for donations of food for the children’s snack time – ideas for healthy snacks that your child enjoys are always welcome.  Volunteers are needed to take home the pre-school washing at the end of the week (aprons, hand towels and tea towels). In addition we ask for help with outings and educational visits.

What skills do you have that you could share?

We are always keen to involve parents on the educational side as well as on the committee. If any parent has any particular skill or interest e.g. musical, theatrical, artistic, they would like to share with the children they are more than welcome to participate in any session.
